Huldra is a participatory VR project drawing parallels between contemporary data collection practices and natural resource extraction. Users are invited to make charcoal from the contents of their personal digital photo archives, watching information being rendered from their images in real time. The work is named for a Norweigan forest spirit historically connected to charcoal production, and whose name was also used for one of Norway’s offshore gas fields.
